A new interpretation of our signature Sankofa bookmark, inspired by the Akan symbol of the bird looking back while moving forward.

Sankofa II retains the intricate sculptural form of the original, while introducing an elegant split-tail detail that gives the design a distinctive new silhouette. Crafted in a warm gold finish, its fine openwork detailing makes it as much a beautiful object to keep as it is a bookmark to use.

Sankofa speaks to the wisdom of remembering where we come from as we move towards where we are going. Sankofa II carries that same message in a new form — a small reminder, nestled between the pages of a book, to honour the past while continuing forward.

The Story

Sankofa is an Akan principle that speaks to the importance of returning to the past to retrieve what is valuable, so that we can move forward.

The symbol is traditionally represented by a bird looking backwards while moving forward, often with an egg held in its beak.

The Design

Designed to sit between the pages while its sculptural bird remains visible outside the book, the Sankofa Bookmark brings this powerful symbol into the everyday ritual of reading.

Its intricate openwork gives the piece its distinctive sculptural character.
