Reads & Art began with my own journey into African literature.
I grew up reading predominantly Western literature, with limited exposure to African writers. As I began reading more widely across the continent, those stories changed the way I understood Africa — and myself.
That journey became a form of reclamation: reconnecting with histories, cultures and ideas that had once felt distant from my own experience.
I created Reads & Art to bring that same spirit of discovery into objects. Our bookmarks take inspiration from African symbols and reimagine them for the modern world — not as relics of the past, but as meaningful design objects that belong in the world today.
